About the Course

Management consultants are paid well because they help executives to break down complex problems, make difficult decisions, and implement lasting change. Consultants know how to work smart and fast. Companies like McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Deloitte, EY, PWC, KPMG, and Accenture have trained thousands of consultants on useful skills, tools, methodologies. Taught by an ex-consultant from Deloitte, John Kim will give you a quick introduction to management consulting: • What do management consultants do? • What are the benefits of a consulting career? • How can you learn these consulting skills? • Why do clients hire management consultants? • What is an example of a consulting skill? This is the first course in the specialization on management consulting....

Professor Kim is a fantastic professor, and I do not say that lightly. Before joining his course, I felt directionless in my future career path; I was a 2022 COVID-19 graduate who left college without much experience because of that, and I did not know where I was going to go with my Economics degree. After trying many different jobs across an array of business fields, I felt completely and utterly stuck. I researched consulting on a whim and decided to give it a chance if there was an open course on Coursera. Here I am, having completed the introductory course, and I am buzzing to start part two. I finally have a career goal that genuinely suits my intellectual and creative skill set. Thank you, Professor Kim!

Insightful course that gives an information - what is consulting, what character does consulting practice build within a practicing professional, what are requirements to be successful - like asking great questions, being structured and patient while dealing with clients and so on. I would recommend this course every working professional who is seeking to climb the organizational hierarchy as well as burgeon his own personal character in a different way.

This course was literally my introduction to management consulting as I navigate a career transition and explore consultancy. I appreciate the instructor's style and highlights of the various student paths in each section. I enjoyed the material and the work sounds like a good match for my skill set, so looking forward to the remaining classes in the specialization.

I appreciate John delivered a great course of 'Introduction to Management Consulting'. He explained detailed information about management consulting which make me more informed about the industry and consultants themselves. It's quite helpful for me to understand and broad and narrow scope in this domain knowledge. Sure, it is quite a pleasurable journey.

This is the first course and I have been glued to this entire specialization since last Friday. Not only does Mr. Kim teach so well and simple for those new to management consulting, but he is entertaining. I am not even an MBA student or the target audience for the specialization (I am a recent undergraduate) and still love this specialization so far.

Great course as an introduction. You can probably skip it and move on to the next course in the specialization if you have some familiarity and are looking for tools/skills directly. The professor is great at providing clarity into concepts, and the pace is easy (though you can probably finish it quicker if you'd like to).

Although I have been consulting as a solopreneur for some time now, I found the course very interesting and informative. The model of the head, the heart, and the hands is beneficial as it can help a consultant understand their audience and what approach(s) they may have to take to complete the assignment successfully.

This course was a great introduction to Management Consulting. Although I have been consulting for the past 5 years, I have felt that I have both strengths and weaknesses. I am hoping that by bringing these forward that I will improve, learn and develop into a more rounded and efficient consultant for my clients.

A very good introduction to the specialization. As professional as it can get, the instructor is very cautious to have a lot of consistency in the core message throughout all of the lessons, referencing back, but not sounding repetitive. You can tell he is well prepared and has very good teaching skills

So worth it! A terrific overview of consulting and the skills you need to be successful. I loved the healthcare/medical analogies (E.g. consultancy is like a medical residency) which I will borrow as I interview for healthcare consulting roles! Planning to finish the valuable specialization.

I absolutely love this course. A big THANK YOU to Professor Kim. Thank you for the simplicity of this content. I am not sleepy or drowsy at all when you teach (this is the highest compliment anyone can receive due to the nature of computer based teaching), I am excited for my remaining courses.

This course is a wonderful and easy introduction to consulting. I liked that it was divided up into student, manager, entrepreneur. That being said, I wish there had been more granular and specific methods of analysis shown. Possibly that's being saved for the intermediate course!

Amazing course! All the basics about what is consulting and, more specifically, what good consulting is, were explained. Everything is very practical and applicable, also great for discovering what skills you need to develop to be a successful management consultant.
