Consider this an organization could have all the right things in place. Great management practices, wonderful facilities, great compensation and benefits, but without the right employees, without the right people to carry out the strategic mission of the organization. It doesn't really matter, does it? That's the focus of this course. How do we hire the right people for our organization? So in modules one, two, and three, we'll look at high level overview of workforce planning, how do we recruit people and how do we select people? What are the considerations that we need to take into account? Now, I can't guarantee you that you will have the best hire after this course, that you will be able to hire the best people. But certainly, I'll give you a lot of tools to point you in the right direction of finding better hires. In module four, my coworker, Stacy Doepner-Hove will talk about onboarding. How do we then bring on employees and drive great behaviors like commitment and engagement? Okay, so, my name is Amy Falink, I'm a senior lecturer here at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. I'm really excited to be your instructor in this course and I hope you're excited to get going too. And in this quick short video, I will take you through the different topics that we will be covering. And again, I look forward to our time together. So let's take a look at the things we will cover in this course together. But first, let's explore why you're here. Maybe you're not in HR, but you do have hiring responsibilities as part of your job. Perhaps you're early in your HR career, and you want to develop your abilities, or you're looking for a job in HR and would like to add this course to your resume. No matter what the reason, I'm glad you're here and I hope you take away lots of new tips and techniques for working in the world of HR. One thing to note is that this course is an overview. Each video is fairly short. We don't have time to do a deep dive on any one area, but it should give you enough information to understand the considerations you need to take into account in the hiring process. Be sure to continue your learning and locate additional sources on these topics. So what will we discover in our journey together. We have four modules, as you can see here. Each one has several lessons, which are in the form of videos. Throughout the course, you'll see plenty of ways to stay engaged and interactive with the materials, including quizzes, peer review exercises, and also discussions. Let's touch on what we'll cover in each module. In module one, we started a macro level. Thinking a big picture topics like how do we link recruitment to org strategy. And what types of internal, external factors affect recruitment. Next we work, move on to the world of recruitment. Where we focus on what makes an effective recruiter. We looked at how recruiting as like marketing. We also explored legal and ethical issues. In module three, we explore the world of selection. This is where we really need to figure out based on those who apply to the organization, who's the best candidate for the job. We look at a variety of selection tools, legal issues and we'll talk about how to conduct effective interviews. We'll also take a look at current issues relating to recruitment and selection like social media, technology, global trends, and analytics. Once you get that great employee in the door, you can't stop there. In the last module, my colleague Stacy Doepner-Hove will show you how to onboard employees, driving employee retention through higher levels of commitment and engagement. We're lucky to have a few guest speakers including Colin Partridge who's the Senior Director of HR at Calson Wagonlit Travel an international organization that provides solution to travelers around the world. In our time together, we explore a variety of topics related to recruitment and selection. We don't really have time to pull out specifics how things are done but I do give you lots of tried and true tips and tricks that should very valuable to you in your job.
