[MUSIC] We are in a world in which global challenges are more and more integrated, and the responses are more and more fragmented. And if this is not reversed, it's a recipe for disaster. These are the words pronounced in Davos in January 2019 by the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez during his speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Over the next years that will be leading us to 2030, we have the unique opportunity to bring the attention back to the rebirth of multilateralism, a rebirth that is needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals set in 2015 as part of the 2030 agenda and to support international development initiatives worldwide. There are a lot of different solutions suggested: from the concept of inclusive multilateralism proposed by the United Nations Secretary General, to the renewed role of the G20 as a platform of broad membership and representation of the general interest. These are solutions which explicitly make it clear that governments cannot tackle the magnitude of issues related to international development alone. But there is a need to co-create change with the support of collaborations across sectors that look at new actors, such as civil society, global philanthropy, businesses, and academia. I am Alexander Hiedemann, faculty member of the Government, Health and Non-profit division at SDA Bocconi School of Management and this is the course 'Management of International Development Towards the 2030 Agenda' by Bocconi University. A course that is laid in the context of the fast-evolving international aid sector and aims to provide an understanding of the functioning of international development, its key actors, their governance system, as well as the key managerial challenges related to both funding and financing, as well as human resource management. This course is built on the expertise of the GHMP division of SDA Bocconi School of Management and the faculty of the Executive Master in Management of International Innovations, together with interviews with professionals serving international development at all levels. The course will be providing you with knowledge, methodological framework and key insights from within the system that are directly applicable to your current and future professional challenges. So it's clear that these course has been developed to support students, as well as professionals serving or willing to serve the United Nations, international NGOs, international financial institutions, as well as separate national organizations to facilitate you in emerging as natural leader serving international development. To achieve this goal, the course has been structured around four weeks. During week 1, we will explore the notion of international development, its functions and actors. In week 2, we will analyze the governance mechanism and processes in international development with our focus on the definition of governance, as well as on the role of global multi-stakeholder partnerships. Having understood the key trends and dynamics in international development, week 3 will be focusing on the funding and financing aspects, thus looking at how this impacted on the incremental expansion of activities and mandates of international innovations, as well as on the advance of innovative ways to finance development initiatives as impact investing in public-private partnerships. Lastly, looking at the major transformations that international development organizations are currently undertaking, in week 4 we will analyze the shift from personal administration to strategic HR management to enable organizations to attract, develop and retain those talents that are needed to generate concrete impact. If you're looking for a course that will support you in succeeding as a professional serving international development, my only suggestion is to take full advantage of this learning journey and enroll. I look forward to accompanying you through this transformative learning experience, during which you will have the chance to meet academics and practitioners who decided to dedicate their talent to serve public interest. Let's reconnect soon. [MUSIC]
